“See Christ Through Us”

Our Savior Lutheran Church Beliefs

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe in one Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We follow the Apostles’ teaching about how God has revealed Himself in the Apostles’ Creed.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

Our Savior Lutheran Sedalia BeliefsAnd in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sat at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence, He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

We believe that although God created his creation as a perfect world, human beings have rebelled against their creator in thoughts, words, and actions. Human beings do not fully understand God, and this sin that dwells in us continues to bring suffering and death to the world.

We believe that God, in his mercy and love for His broken creation, sent his only-begotten Son into the world: Jesus Christ took our human nature upon Himself, lived the perfect life we are unable to live, and suffered the punishment our sins deserve. On the third day, He rose from the dead and showed Himself alive to his disciples as a sign that His sacrifice had been accepted.

We believe that we cannot, by our own reason or strength, earn or deserve God’s favor due to our sins. Because of Jesus’ perfect life of love, God offers forgiveness, life, and salvation to every person who believes in Jesus Christ. All believers are received into grace and are given Christ’s righteousness by their faith in Him.

We believe God has instituted His Church on earth to proclaim that message of grace and salvation to the world. Through the preaching of His Word and through His Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, God creates and strengthens the faith of his people, connecting them to Jesus’ death and resurrection.

We believe baptism is a necessary gift God gives His people, where the Holy Spirit brings grace to all people. Since all people are conceived and born in sin (Psalm 51) and whole households were baptized into the faith (Acts 16:15, 16:31, 18:8), we believe that this promise is “for you and your children and all who are far off (Acts 2:38).”

We believe the only way to know what God intends for His creation and the only guide for our lives as his creatures is found in His Word, the Holy Bible. We follow traditional understandings of the Old Testament, that it is inspired by God and points to the coming Messiah. We confess the writings of the New Testament are inspired by God and tell the good news that our Messiah has come bearing eternal salvation, forgiveness of sins, and new life for all who trust in Him.
